Concert Time:
John Martin and his band, ‘Boucherie’, play Cajun music of South-western                        Louisiana: traditional waltzes and two-steps, first recorded in the late 1920s by such milestone artists as Denus McGee, Cleoma and Joseph Falcon, and Amedie Ardoin. Assimilated material from other genres, such as country, string band and western swing, is represented with songs from D.L Menard, The Hackberry Ramblers and Harry Choates.

“The word ‘Boucherie,’ in Louisiana, refers to the occasion of communally slaughtering a pig or two. The activity isn’t exclusively Cajun; the same was commonplace here, in the not so distant past. The band use the name, because it evokes the Cajun sense of sociability and sharing.
